Thesis Topic: Investigation and Optimization of Optical MicrosphereResonators
Optical resonators are one of the key components in many optical systems. In recent years, Whispering Gallery Mode (WGM) microresonators have attracted increasing attention in many applications such as filtering, lasing, switching and sensing and especially in biosensing owing to their high quality factor (Q) and low mode volume. Among different geometries of WGM microresonators, microspheres have attracted more attention due to their very high quality factors (up to 1010) and ease of fabrication. In this research, we have proposed a new structure of optical microsphere resonators to improve their parameters and we are investigating the use of this structure in different applications of microspheres such as lasing and sensing.
